Homosexuality in the past thirty years, with a sharper emphasis on approximately the last fifteen, has gained wider social acceptance...and continues to. This progress is not lost within the black community, however, it can not be denied that GLBT people of color not only have a more difficult path because of the racism that we still commonly face from the mainstream public...but also because within our own community resistance to homosexuality at times seems to be a little more rigid.
I've found that many black persons (singular) can be and are accepting of gays and lesbians. As a community, overall, though we tend to dispute and oppress homosexuality more than the mainstream.
Thoughts?
